Rohit Gurunath Sharma, popularly known as the Hitman, is an Indian international cricketer and one of India's most successful opening batters. Born on 30 April 1987 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, Rohit bats right-handed and bowls occasional right-arm off-break. He made his international debut in 2007 and went on to establish himself across all three international formats.
Rohit initially played international cricket as a middle-order batter before making a highly successful transition to opening the innings. His timing, ability to play long innings and exceptional six-hitting became defining characteristics of his batting.
In ODI cricket, Rohit has produced several historic performances. His 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014 remains one of the most famous individual innings in ODI cricket. He is also the only batter to have scored three ODI double centuries.
Rohit has also enjoyed a highly successful IPL career with Mumbai Indians. He became one of the central figures of the franchise and has captained Mumbai Indians to multiple IPL titles.
As India's captain, Rohit led the team to victory in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup and subsequently captained India to the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. In the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand, he scored 76 runs and was named Player of the Match.
Rohit announced his retirement from T20I cricket after India's 2024 T20 World Cup victory and retired from Test cricket in May 2025. He continued to represent India in ODI cricket.
In July 2026, Rohit continued to feature for India in ODI cricket. During the third ODI against England at Lord's, he scored 138 from 110 deliveries, becoming the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at Lord's.
